Location Overview:

Sandakphu is a small Himalayan hamlet situated on the top of a mountain peak in the Singalila Ridge. It is considered a trekker's paradise as you can see 4 massive Himalayan peaks during the popular Sandakphu trek. The trail offers a unique experience of traversing through both India and Nepal, where your lunch halt might be in Nepal and dinner in India.

Itinerary Itinerary


Maneybhanjang - Tumbling (13 km / 5 hrs)


  • Your trip starts at Maneybhanjang where documentation formalities have to be taken care of before trekking through the forested trail.

  • You will start the uphill trek to Tumling. The path leads through oak and rhododendron trees. From Tumling the views are stunning; you can see the Khangchendzongna range in the distance and the city of Darjeeling.

  • Overnight stay: Tumling
Tumling - Kalapokhri (13 km/ 5 hrs)

  • Early morning walk up to Tumling Gompa for a sunrise view of the Singalila range, especially of Mount Khangchendzonga.
  • Walk down to Tumling accommodation for breakfast and then head to Kalapokhari via Gairibas. The route leads uphill through bamboo and mixed forests and crop fields.
  • Overnight stay: Kalapokhari

Kalapokhri to Sandakphu (5 km/ 3 hrs)


  • After breakfast at Kalapokhri, trek on an even trail to Bikhebhanjyang (or ‘Valley of Poison’). From here, it’s a steep climb over 4 km to Sandakphu. From here, Mount Everest, Khangchendzonga, Lhotse, and other majestic peaks are visible.

  • Overnight stay: Sandakphu
Sandakphu - Rimbick (18 km/ 6 hrs)

  • Early morning walk up to the vantage points for morning sunrise views of the peaks.
  • Head back down for breakfast and resume trekking toward Rimbick. The trail is covered with bamboo, rhododendron, and other lush trees. After about 5 hours of walking, you will reach Rimbick village.

  • Overnight stay: Rimbick
