Naharlagun is at an altitude of 155 metres from sea level. Surrounded by mountains, Naharlagun is a city which sees annual long monsoon rains. The weather is sub-tropical, with hot and humid summer and temperate winter. With its Heli service connecting Guwahati and Railway Station connecting to Guwahati & other major Indian cities, Naharlagun has become gateway to Arunachal Pradesh. It has quite a few interesting places to visit.

If you love flowers, Polo Park is the right destination for you. This botanical garden with a wonderful collection of flowers is situated on a hill in the Naharlagun region. One of the highlights of Polo Park are the thickets of cane. The mini zoo in the park houses various animals including guinea pigs and rabbits. The handicraft center in the park has a good collection of carpets, shawls, and products made of cane and bamboo.

Adjacent to the Rajiv Gandhi University in Doimukh is the Botanical Garden. This Garden has a collection of mostly indigenous plants and trees from the region. There is a section on orchids from the region which should not be missed.
The Dalai Lama himself consecrated this temple, which sits in a peaceful spot surrounded by mighty hills all around. This beautiful well maintained Buddhist temple about ½ km from Itanagar is situated on the top of a small hill. One can have panoramic, view of entire Itanagar from here . It is the most peaceful and serene place to visit in Itanagar.
