Sittong

Sittong is a cluster of villages in a large area known locally as Sittong Khasmahal. The place has become famous among tourists as it is the heart of the orange growing countryside of Darjeeling hills. However, Sittong has much more to offer to the tourists apart from its oranges, nature is at its pristine best and bestowed Sittong with its bounty. The area is untouched with mass tourism infrastructure development yet one can enjoy the beauty of unspoiled nature. A number of Homestays and camps are available for overnight stay.

Place of Interest / Things to do
Adventure Camp

There are several soft adventure opportunities around Sittong including trekking and camping, several trek routes originate from Sittong and go to a variety of destinations, like an hour’s trek will take you to the highest point in Sittong area, from here you can have a panoramic 360 degrees view covering Dooars, Terai, Kurseong, Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Sikkim hills. Another trek through the forest can take you to Chatakpur. You can also trek to Bagora via Mamring from here. Other trek options include a trek to Kurseong via Majua and Mahaldiram. If you are interested in low altitude treks, this place will give you plenty of choices. Camping of school groups and others are also organized regularly besides river Riyang, there is a camping ground which has a small waterfall and a climbing rock for practising.

ShivKhola

Shiva Khola is a nature lovers paradise, at an altitude of 1527 ft above Sea level. The climatic condition is very pleasant due to the lush green forests all around with average temperature of maximum up-to 27-28 degrees, i.e. during summer season. The streams of rivers flowing in between adds up to its scenic beauty along with varied flora and fauna makes Shiva Khola a favourite destination for wildlife enthusiast as well. It is an ideal place for birdwatching. There is a very old Lord Shiva temple adorned with a naturally formed Shiva Linga, which is regarded very holy and worshipped by the locals with great respect.

Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary

Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary is located on the foothills of the Himalayas, between the Teesta and Mahananda rivers. Situated in the Darjeeling district it comes under Darjeeling Wildlife division and can be reached from Siliguri in 30 minutes. Sukna, the gateway to the sanctuary, is only 13 km from Siliguri and 28 km from Bagdogra airport. The sanctuary sprawls over 159 km2 of reserve forest and was started as a game sanctuary in 1955. In 1959, it got the status of a sanctuary mainly to protect the Indian bison and Royal Bengal Tiger.

Latpanecher

A beautiful mountain hamlet offering stunning views including that of Khangchendzonga, having a wide range of bird & animal life as well as many different types of amazing plantations. Latpanchar actually forms the highest part of Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary with an average altitude of about 4,200 ft. Since it's part of the sanctuary, there is a good chance that you will come across some wildlife here like deer, barking deer, wild boars, and some times even leopards and elephants while exploring the jungles around.
