Around 20 km from Rongli in East Sikkim is this heaven for birdwatchers and solace seekers. At Rolep, one can try angling skills to catch trout in the Shokey Khola River or get wet at the 45-foot high Buddha waterfall. Take village walks and get closer to learning the skills of living in harmony with nature and try bird watching in the forests. Rolep is one of the most favorable destinations within the Silk Route circuit to embark on your high – altitude trip to Zuluk or Gnathang. The lush greenery, the serene village life and the gushing waterfall and rivers of Rolep rejuvenates one.
Angling – There are a number of spots where one can do angling for trout’s in the Shokey Khola River, which originates at Menmecho Lake. Permits from the Fisheries Department is required and the the number of fish to be taken is limited as per location and time of the year.
Village Walk - Take a walk up in the terraced paddy fields there is a remarkable depression of an old dried up lake bed of the Chochen Lake, walk across the hanging bridge with a water fall on the Shokey Khola and then on to the religious Baudha cave on the upper end of the Rolep Village this cave is situated in a northern part of Rolep village in a very dense forest. It is one of the most important places for the people of Sikkim.
Traditional Hot Stone Bath – Traditionally the hot stone bath are used in the eastern Himalayas by both the Lepchas as well as Bhutias. It’s quite similar to the Bhutanese Hot stone bath but minor difference of usage of local herbs for therapeutic reasons. River stones are heated over wood fire and then slipped into wooden tubs filled with river water and herbs.
