Tsomgo Lake, also known as Tsongmo Lake or Changu Lake, is a glacial lake. The Lake remains frozen during the winter season. The lake surface reflects different colors with the change of seasons and is held in great reverence by the local Sikkimese people. Buddhist monks study the prophecy of Sikkim from the changing colors of the lake. A short ropeway has also started at Tsomgo Lake.
Ropeway – A cable car ride of 10 mins takes to the view point on the upper reaches of Tsomgo lake. From this view point one can see the entire lake and the surrounding hills.
Kyongsala Alpine Sanctuary – Across the lake the area is demarcated as the Kyongsala Alpine Sanctuary, this is a protected area for delicate alpine flora which includes Rhododendrons, Gentians, Primula, Himalayan Rhubarb, Iris and the famous Blue Poppy. A must visit for nature lovers.
Boating at Hangu lake – About 14 kms ahead of Tsomgo lake is the Hangu lake where paddle boats are available for leisure boating nearly a kilometer long the lake is at an altitude of 13000 feet.
