(1) Ujjayanta Palace- The Cultural Heritage of Agartala

It is one of the most popular tourist places in Agartala. Ujjayanta Palace is situated at the centre of Agartala. This palace is surrounded by the busy markets of the city. It is located on the banks of a lake and is covered by the lush green gardens made by the Mughals.

Established in 1901, Ujjayanta Palace is the epitome of richness with magnificent tiled floors, wooden ceilings, and huge fancy doors. The palace got its name from Rabindranath Tagore, who was a regular guest of Tripura.

Located 25 kilometres away from the city, in Bishalgarh of Agartala, Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a variety of fauna and birds. Over 100 species of residential and migratory birds can be found here. Moreover, this wildlife sanctuary is also an academic and research centre. While visiting this place, you will come across lakes where you can choose to do boating.

Other things to watch here are the orchid garden, botanical garden, zoo, elephant joy ride, rubber and coffee plantations etc. Thus, places like this one are simply perfect for any nature lover! Moreover, what makes this place famous is the presence of the rare spectacled monkey.

The next one in the list is the Tripura Sundari Temple. This remarkable 500-year-old temple is located in Udaipur, which is nearly 55 km away from Agartala. It is one of the 51 Sakti Peethas, and what makes it unique is the belief that the right toe of Sati fell here. Another interesting fact about this temple is that it is in the shape of a tortoise.

Neermahal is also famously known as the “Lake Palace of Tripura”. It is the largest palace of its kind in the whole of India. It is the location of this palace that enhances its beauty. It is rightly located in the centre of Rudrasagar Lake. Talking about its history, it was built during the reign of King Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur especially created for the king and his family. The beautiful structure of the palace depicts its rich history.

Jagannath Temple in Agartala was built by the Maharaja of Tripura of the Manikya Dynasty. It is located in the Ujjayanta Palace grounds, and people come here to worship the Hindu God Jagannath. Kunjaban Palace was built by King Birendra Kishore Manikya back in the year 1917. However, today it is the official residence of the Governor of Tripura.
