Ever since my childhood days, I was always fascinated by the expertise of a fisherman. The art of fishing excites me! Is it the same for you? Are you also a fishing zealot? If yes, then head out to Northeast India as it has some amazing fishing destinations that will unleash the fishing admirer inside you. Blessed with breathtaking and meandering rivers and the beautiful waterfalls, the entire region is a must-visit destination for all fishing lovers. The pristine undisturbed water bodies flowing through the states make the region great for fishing. But before you start your voyage, here are the names of a few places that will help you choose the perfect fishing spot.  

1. Siang River- Arunachal Pradesh 
 
Many river tributaries flow through Arunachal Pradesh making it an ideal fishing destination. You can enjoy fishing in the Siang River flowing amidst the Siang district, which is a splendid destination for fishing between the hilly landscape. The river provides you with ample opportunities to catch fish, especially brown trout and golden Mahseer. 

Best time to visit: October to April, immediately after the monsoon. 

How to reach the place: The nearest airport is Pasighat Airport, located in the East Siang district.

2. Ranikor- Meghalaya 

When talking of Meghalaya, things that come to our mind are its extensive beauty in the waterfalls and rocky hills. What comes with this beauty is the fulfilling fishing experience in the Ranikor River. The deep blue water of the river is home to Golden Mahseer, Chocolate Mahseer, and Goonch. 

Best time to visit: September to May

How to reach the place: The airport near Ranikor is Shillong Airport (Also known as Umroi Airport), located at a distance of 145 km. 
 
3. Jia Bharali River- Assam
           
Located in Upper Assam, the Jia Bhorali is the border to Nameri National Park and a perfect destination to catch Golden Mahseer, Saal, Gorua, and Korang. What's best about this place is that it organizes an annual fishing competition; the biggest Golden mahseer was caught in 1997. You can simply enjoy a lazy evening fishing in the Jia Bharali River and experiencing the picture-perfect scenic beauty at the same time.

How to reach the place: The nearest airport to Jia Bharali is Tezpur Airport, located at a distance of 30 km. 

4. Lohit River- Arunachal Pradesh

Lohit River also known as Zayü River is located amidst the mountainous region of Arunachal Pradesh. The river is a tributary to the Brahmaputra River and is unique in many ways. The translucent, untouched, and pure water of the river will make the sport more exciting. According to researchers, the river is home to the Golden mahseer and some newly discovered rare species like Physoschistura Harkishorei.

How to reach the place: The nearest airport to Lohit is Tezu Airport, located at a distance of 117 km. 

5. Doyang River- Nagaland

The Doyang River is the largest river in the state of Nagaland and is also called as Dzu by the people of Wokha district. The river is a prominent fishing destination for tourists and local people. It is noteworthy that this river is one of the major sources of water for people living in different parts of the district. Partake the fun activity of fishing and also enjoy the view of the green lush forests surrounding the river. You can find all sizes of Catla here among the many other species of fish.

How to reach the place: The nearest airport to Doyang is Dimapur Airport, located at a distance of 124 km. 

6. Umiam Lake- Meghalaya

Overloaded with a plethora of rivers and lakes, Meghalaya is a mesmerising fishing destination. Also known as Barapani, the Umiam Lake is located in Shillong. The crystal-clear water of this lake will render some great fishing opportunities for you. You will come across a variety of fish like catfish, golden carp, and silver carp in this water escape. Fishing here is enjoyed by both locals and tourists.

How to reach the place: The nearest airport to Umiam is Shillong Airport, located at a distance of 14 km. 

7. Tam Dil Lake- Mizoram 
 
Experience fishing in Tam Dil Lake situated at a distance of 6 km from Saitual, Mizoram. This lake is slightly secluded, and the deep green vibrant forest surrounding the lake makes it perfect for creating wonderful fishing memories. The lake is blessed with an abundance of different species of fish, prawns, and crabs.

How to reach the place: The nearest airport to Tam Dil is Lengpui Airport in Aizawl, located at a distance of 114 km.

8. River Teesta- Sikkim

The Teesta River, known as the “lifeline of Sikkim,” is surrounded by dense lush green flora from all sides. The scenic view of the river is indeed a treat to the eye. You can have the best fishing experience in this river, which is home to fish like chapila, mola, kajli, and boroli.

How to reach the place: The nearest airport to Teesta River is Bagdogra Airport (West Bengal), located at a distance of 125 km from Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim.
