The famous Nyukmadong War Memorial is in Sangti in the West Kameng District of Arunachal Pradesh in India. The Nyukmadong War Memorial is between Dirang and Sela pass. The Nyukmadong War Memorial is approximately 18 kilometers which is around 30 minutes drive from Dirang and from Sela Pass the Nyukmadong War Memorial is approximately 47 kilometers which are around one and half hour drive. The nearest town is Dirang to reach Nyukmadong War Memorial and taxis are easily available from Dirang town. In the year of 1962 on the 18th of November the battle of Nyukmadong was fought between 62 Infantry Brigade and the Chinese forces. The Nyukmadong war Memorial has a land of 1.5 acres. Under the command of Brig Hoshiar Singh the 62 Infantry Brigade was carried out from Sela. Several offices and other ranks officers gave a sacrifice after inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy in the small village of Dirang – Sela road of Nyukmadong. The area is very beautiful since the entire place is surrounded by beautiful coniferous trees planted around. In the memory of our brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives a stupa has also built. The Chorten which is almost 25 feet tall is the main memorial to the local ethos and traditions. The design and architecture are typical of Buddhist style, especially the entrance of the monastery. The names of the officers and Jawans have been erected on both sides of the memorial that died during the fateful day. The memorial is looked at by JCO’s and they are also more willing to narrate the detailed accounts of the battle. A visit to this memorial invariably turns on such a solemn occasion that every visitor leaves the place with a sad and heavy heart.
