Chota Mangwa is a small village located just above the Teesta River Valley. Chota Mangwa is top of a ridge in the Darjeeling Hills. It offers magnificent view of Mt. Khangchendzonga on one side and Teesta River and valley with Kalimpong Hills on the other side. In Lepcha language the word means ‘small place of millet’. It is placed wonderfully with both side views and orange gardens and citrus plantations surrounding the small quiet village.
Chota Mangwa is rapidly growing as tourist destinations. Takling village, Takling Old Monastery, Rungli Rungliot Tea Garden in Takdah, Lopchu village for the orange juice manufacturing unit are some of the places to visit besides taking walks and enjoying the natural beauty of the area.
It is an obscure exotic location around the hills of Darjeeling. It is one and half hour’s drive from Darjeeling and can also be reached via Teesta Bazar from Siliguri. One should ideally take a vehicle like Bolero or Scorpoio to Chota Mangwa as the roads are not in good conditions here.
Orange orchards are pretty famous in this upcoming destination. One can help the locals in harvesting season when oranges are ready to ripe. In this eco friendly village, extremely friendly and down to earth people welcome you. If you want to see the orchards full with oranges, the best time to visit Chota Mangwa is between October and February.
