If you are an adventure lover then a visit to Kaziranga National Park of Assam and experiencing a Jeep safari is a must. Kaziranga National Park is a World Heritage site and it is spread across 430 square kilometres. Kaziranga National Park is a home for many animals like one-horned Rhino, Elephants, Tigers, Deer and etc. The National Park is also a home for several migratory birds. Within Kaziranga National Park one can do an activity like Jeep Safari and Elephant Safari.
Jeep Safari can be availed in the morning hours in the Central Range or Kohora Range, the central zone is also known as Kaziranga zone which is in Kohora. The starting point of the central range is Mihimukh riding tower and the other zone is a Western Range which is at Bagori, the starting point of this famous economic zone is at Bagori headquarter. The duration of the elephant safari is of about an hour with three different shifts, it starts from 6:00 am while the other is at 7:00 am and sometimes the Jeep safari takes place till early afternoon when the numbers of tourists are more hence, the shift depends upon the number of tourists and the park authority to organize or not.
Since there are different zones for a Jeep safari but the western zone is one of the famous zone and it is considered as the best zone for both Jeep safari and elephant safari and a maximum of the tourists would like to prefer to choose the western zone to enjoy the elephant safari in the dense forest of Kaziranga National Park. Jeep Safari in Kaziranga National Park is permitted on the designated routes which decided by the forest officials. The Jeep Safari is allowed in all the four zones of the Kaziranga National Park like the Central Range or Kaziranga Range it is the most common route with wetlands and open grasslands. The Agartoli Range on the eastern side of the park is famous for Rhinos and Elephants. The hilly landscape with the dense greenery makes this zone the best for the bird lovers. The booking of the tickets or the permits for elephant safari can be directly done visiting the offices of the zones. The cost for a jeep safari is INR 2600.00 and entry fee of INR 100.00 per person is required, one jeep permits maximum five passengers. During the peak season, it is advisable to book the tickets or the permits in an advance to enjoy the Jeep safari without any difficulty and it is also advisable to reach on the scheduled time and date. The nearest airport to reach Kaziranga National Park is Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport of Guwahati in Assam and the nearest railway station is Guwahati Assam. From both the place one can hire a cab or take another mode of transportations to reach the destination. The distance from Guwahati to Kaziranga National Park is almost 5 hours which is approximately 230 kilometres. The road is on very good condition hence it is easily accessible from Guwahati or any other states.
