The Jungle Safari by Darjeeling Himalayan Railway takes through the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary which is located around Sukna and Rangtong Station. Rangtong is a small village on the roadside and at an altitude of 1404 ft and it is almost 16kms away from Siliguri Junction. The Jungle Safari by Darjeeling Himalayan Railway offers a breathtaking view of the valleys. The nature lovers will definitely love the Jungle Safari and the toy train is pulled by a ‘B’ class steam locomotive engine. There are two or three coaches provided depending on the demand. The Diesel Hauled Jungle Safari is a special train which is functionalized on-demand on a round trip basis from Siliguri Junction to Tindharia via Tongtong and back to Siliguri Junction but recently (updated on December 2018) the tourism has introduced a steam engine hauled evening train. Usually, the round trip Diesel Hauled Jungle Safari used to leaves at 10:30 AM from Siliguri Junction and past through Sukna and reaches Rangtong at 11:50 AM and return from Rangtong to Siliguri Junction at 1:35 PM after a halt of almost 20 minutes in Rangtong. The steam engine hauled evening train leaves the Siliguri Junction at 3:00 PM in the afternoon and the train has one general coach with a capacity of 17 and another dining coach with a capacity of 12. The evening Jungle Safari also have a refreshments as well and the cost for ride per person is INR 1000.00, while with food is INR 1200.00. The round trip Jungle Safari Toy train is about three hours which operates between Siliguri Junction and Rangtong Station and back to Siliguri Junction. Earlier the Jungle Safari round trip used to be of at least six hours and the toy train used to go up to Tindhatia or Gayabari only but now the roundtrip time is reduced to three hours and also the toy train go up to Rangtong village and the fare for first-class Diesel Hauled Jungle Safari toy train from Siliguri Junction to Rangtong and back to Siliguri Junction is INR 540.00 per person only.
