Jakrem located about 64 km from Shillong on the Shillong-Mawkyrwat road (State Highway 4), is famous for its hot water springs of sulphur water which is believed to have curative medicinal properties and provide a refreshing experience to anyone who takes a dip in them.

Jakrem has now developed as a potential health resort. People from all parts of the region visit here to take a dip in the hot spring. Bathing compartments are available around the spring for the use of the public. It is also a favorite picnic spot during winter.

This place is famous mostly for the natural scenary and some hot water springs which lay around the area. Jakrem Hot Springs is about two to two-and-a-half hours from Shillong, on the way to Mawsynram. Tourists visiting nearby places such as Mawsynram and Cherapunji should surely once visit this place. There is a facility wherein the hot water is distributed through pipes to various bath rooms where you can take a shower in privacy. The water is known to be miraculous as it cures quite some ailments and known to relax the muscles and heal body aches. This place has some few small hot water springs where sulphur and mineral rich hot water oozes out from the hot earth. As those coming here will witness, part of the water is piped to a swimming pool, which is in good shape where one can take a bath or swim.

It is advisable for travellers to visit Jakrem early in the day so they can return to Shillong by evening safely. The road to Jakrem is very stunning and scenic. This routes is paradise for nature photographers to click some amazing shots.

There is an entry fee as well as a parking fee too for visitors. Taxi can be booked from Shillong or Mawsynram to visit Jakrem.
