Kamalabari is a famous Satra in Majuli which was founded by Bedulapadma Ata in 1595. Located in the heart of island, the Kamalabari Satra is the centre for all things related to culture, literature, art, and music. This satra has produced many great figures in the state in the culture sector. ‘Kamala’ means lotus and ‘bari’ means garden in Assamese.
The beautiful structure is slightly old and dilapidated but the intricate designs on the walls and ceilings are just as bright as they were when they were made. One can reach here by hiring a ferry from the Nimatighat port near Jorhat. It’s an Ashram for Brahmchari only.
