Lachung is a small town in North Sikkim, close to the Tibetan border. Located at an elevation of 8,610 ft, it turns into a winter wonderland in the months starting late October till February. Lachung is one of the most popular places to visit in Sikkim.
The best time to visit Lachung is in the summer months from April to June. During this time, you get clear views of the Himalayas, and the weather is very pleasant. Yumthang valley is beautifully carpeted with blooming rhododendrons. The autumn month of October is a great time to visit too.
Other times during the year, Lachung experiences monsoons and extreme snowfall. Monsoons see heavy rainfall, strong winds, and landslides. Peak winters, the temperature goes below freezing, to as low as -17⁰C.
Reaching Lachung
Tourists wishing to visit Lachung have to first reach Siliguri in West Bengal. From here, most trips to Lachung start from Gangtok, the capital city of Sikkim.
