Lamahatta is a small and beautiful place which is almost 23 kilometres away from the district of Darjeeling and almost 5 kilometers away from the small village called Peshok; Lamahatta is at an altitude of about 1700 feet. The word Lamahatta means the monks heritage, in local language Lama, means the Monks and hatta means hut.

Lamahatta is very well connected from Darjeeling and Kalimpong and it is easily accessible by any mode of transportation. The main sources of livelihood of the local people are farming and cattle rearing. The place Lamahatta offers a very beautiful view of mountains across the valley with Cedar & Pine forest above the village area. The Lamahatta offers a number of tourist activities like hiking, trekking, gardening and many more. Almost at a distance of 20 minutes’ walk from Lamahatta there is a 500 years old Buddhist monastery where the Buddhist prayer flag keeps fluttering. The Dukpas, Sherpa and Yalmoos are the main inhabitants of this place. Just about 15 kilometer away from Lamahatta the famous and majestic river Teesta can also be visited which is also very famous for river rafting and many tourists along with the locals loves to enjoy and visit this place for rafting.

The scenic tea garden is also at a walking distance from the tourist spot Lamahatta and the nature lover can enjoy or go for an adventure jungle trek. The major attraction of Lamahatta is the manicured garden which is very well maintained and clean. Lamahatta is a perfect holiday destination for trekkers who loves to treks in the opposite direction from the buzzing urban life and appreciate the very uncommon routes. One can visit Lamahatta throughout the year but if you want to see the blooms and the cool weather then a visit during winter season is best. The entry ticket for per person is INR 10.00.

In Lamahatta one can experience the silence and beauty of nature, see the seductive garden, beautiful blossoms of orchids, watchtower, prayer flags, etc. Visit Lamahatta with one of the most mesmerizing views of Mt Kanchenjunga which is far away from the city and the pollution; it is also an ideal place for a peaceful vacation amidst the nature.
