Mariyang the homeland of Padam Pasi and Millang communities

Mariyang is a small town located in the Upper Siang District in Mariyang Tehsil in the northeastern state of India in Arunachal Pradesh. The district headquarters Yingkoing is located 23 kilometers away towards the South. Mariyang comes under the Tuting town which is a charming little town surrounded by dense forests and mountains. Mariyang is the homeland for many local communities like Padam, Pasi and Millang. The Padams, Millangs and Pasis have a rich traditional culture. The place is surrounded by Riga Tehsil towards West, Yingkoing Tehsil towards North and Rumgong Tehsil towards West. The nearby villages to Mariyang are Bomi which is almost 7 kilometers away and Gobuk which is almost 13 kilometers away and some nearby cities to Mariyang are Pasighat, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Silapathar, etc. Mariyang is in the border of Upper Siang District and East Siang District. The total population in Mariyang a small town is approximately 1358 and the numbers of houses are around 323. The local language of Mariyang town is English hence for tourists it is very easy to communicate with the locals. To reach Mariyang it is very easy since it is well connected by road and it is easily accessible via Pasighat – Ranaghat road, crossing the River Siang by boat. The small village or a town is situated at a hillock overlooking the confluence of the river Yammeng and Yamne. Apart from the scenic beauty, one can go and see the Damro village, which is known to be the largest village of Upper Siang and it is almost 10 kilometers from Mariyang. Pekimodi, which is famous in Adi folklore, is 34 kilometers away from Mariyang. Every year during the month of September the Solung festival is celebrated and during the festival all the villagers take part and a traditional dance form namely Ponung is performed by the village belles.
