Zangtho Pelri is a three-storied monastery located in the heart of the town of Samdrup Jongkhar. This is a private monastery located across from the entrance to the Samdrup Jongkhar dzong. Zangtho or Zando Pelri means ‘celestial abode of Guru Rinpoche’ or ‘paradise of Guru Rinpoche’.

As said by legends it is the replication of Guru’s paradise, the exterior architecture of building is something to marvel over. The interior, however, is equally stunning as the, walls and ceilings see explosions of complex frescos and fine Buddhist statues are bliss to the visitors.

The complex serves as a spiritual refuge of the locals where they can pray and perform religious offerings to Guru Padmasambhava. It is definitely worth a visit.
