Planning a trip to Meghalaya and wondering what would be the best time to visit Meghalaya?

Meghalaya is a beautiful hill state snuggled in the eastern Himalayas comprising the Jantia, Khasi & Garo Hills which are a natural barrier between Bangladesh and Assam. The word "Meghalaya" is a combination of "megh"  meaning clouds and "alaya' meaning home,  which translates to the "Abode of Clouds," and true to its meaning it is one of the wettest places in India.

Meghalaya is fast becoming a preferred destination for adventure seekers and leisure tourists alike. Every season in the state gives you a reason to plan a trip to Meghalaya, even the monsoon! Having said that, the best time to visit Meghalaya is all year round.

SUMMER SEASON IN MEGHALAYA

April to June is considered summertime in Meghalaya. Summers in Meghalaya are moderate and the temperatures seldom go over 25oC in most parts of the state with pleasant mornings and evenings, making Meghalaya an ideal place to visit to escape the scorching heat of Indian summers. It can be said that the summer months are the best time to visit Meghalaya.

MONSOON SEASON IN MEGHALAYA

July to September is monsoon time in Meghalaya, even though the onset of monsoons in Meghalaya sometime starts in the month of June. Rains add to the charm of the place in Meghalaya with all of the waterfalls in their full glory and the forest cover is a fresh hue of green. Cherrapunjee and Mawsynram in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya have the record of receiving the highest rainfall in the country.
