Near Umkiang village on top of the hill there is a deep lake believed by the locals to be the spot where old and aged elephants go to die by plunging themselves into the deep pool. It is also believed that valuable ivory of the dead elephants are guarded by huge serpent so that nobody can take away the tusks.

One can reach Umkiang Village from Jowai by taxi or local bus. It’s a 3 hrs drive from Jowai to Umkiang through lush green forest and beautiful roads. U Lum Sunaraja is at the top of Umkiang Village hill. One has to trek up a steep hill in West Jaintia district of Meghalaya state. Its normally a 4-5 hrs trek to reach to the lake. View from Khasi and Jaintia Hills from the top is mesmerizing.
