A high altitude fish farm Tarin Fish Farm is located in high altitude in Ziro a town in the northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh, India. The Tarin Fish Farm is surrounded by Pine Grove and Bamboo Grove. The Tarin Fish Farm is situated at a high altitude in the Bulla village which is inhabited by the people of Apatani tribes of Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh. Tarin Fish Farm is approachable by trekking only and the farm is almost 3.5 kilometers from Hapoli. The Tarin Fish Farm is one of the popular tourist attractions and once a visitor reaches the farm they can see the breeding of high altitude fishes. One can also see the process of raising the two crops of rice (Mipya and Emoh) and a breed of fish (Ngihi) together which is practiced followed by the Apatanis tribes. It is sold during the cultivation season of paddy. The District Fishery Development Officer, Government of Arunachal Pradesh takes care of the farm. The Tarin Fish Farm is one of the tourist attractions in Ziro Arunachal Pradesh. The Tarin Fish Farms was established in 1985-1986 under NEC and the farm covers an area of 7.4 hectares. The farm has around 74 ponds and out of which 46 numbers are nursery ponds, 16 are rearing ponds and 12 are stocking ponds. Earlier the fish farming was in Kamala Valley in Ziro in Arunachal Pradesh and the area was of approx 200 kilometers of the fish farming and recently known as paddy cum fish cultivation where the Apatanis used to practices the farming. In Ziro the best sites to practice fish farming is Tarin Fish Farm. One can visit the farm throughout the year but the best time is from February to March. Lilabari airport of North Lakhimpur, Assam is the nearest airport to reach Ziro and from the airport one needs to hire a taxi or need to take a shared taxi. The drive from the airport to Ziro is approximately 5 hours. The nearest railway station is Naharlagun which is approximately 4 hours drive from Ziro. One can also drive to Ziro from Guwahati by road.
