Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures (DBCIC) is a unique venture of the Salesians of Don Bosco in North East India to develop expert facilities for the preservation and promotion of numerous beautiful and diverse indigenous cultures of the region, of India in particular and in communion with indigenous cultures anywhere in the world.
Don Bosco Museum comes under DBCIC which is located in Mawlai Mawdatbaki, 50 kms from Shillong Centre and is situated within the Sacred Heart Church. Don Bosco Museum is a theme museum that has a warehouse of information on the entire North Eastern states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura. The museum exhibits a wide collection of regional handicrafts, artwork, ornamentation, accoutrements, attires, weapons and photographs.
The museum consists of seven storey building with seventeen galleries displaying paintings , artifacts and fiberglass items. Besides, the visitors can witness some of the rare dance forms of the Northeast at the top most storey of the museum (have fixed timings).
Don Bosco Museum, Shillong
It is an institution combining a museum with a research and publication centre, for promoting and preserving the rich cultural heritage of North East India -a unique fusion of all sevensister states under one roof. With seven stories, 56,000 square feet of floor space and 15,154 square feet of display wall space, it ranks among the top 36 cultural centers of its kind in the Salesian world. It offers study and research facilities throughout its specialized library of 10,000 volumes, a media hall and a conference hall. It is frequented by school students and older research students and anthropologists, since this area of India is an anthropologist's paradise.
