The combination of 8 states of India namely Sikkim, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya, and Tripura is what holds the North-Eastern part of India together. Each of these parts of India has its own culture and tradition. What make these places popular among the tourists are the scenic views, rugged mountains, diverse flora and fauna, glacial lakes, and waterfalls. 

 

All these things make Northeast India one of the most-visited tourist places in India. People from different parts of India and also thousands of foreigners visit this place every year. 

 

 

Ujjayanta Palace in Tripura, India

One among the “Seven Sister States” of Northeast India, Tripura has a rich history and culture. This state has many popular places to visit by a tourist and Ujjayanta Palace is one of them. This beautiful white palace is situated in the city of Agartala and reminds us of the age of the Tripura maharajas. 

Be one of the lucky people to have a unique experience of witnessing the history and royal architecture by visiting the Ujjayanta Palace. Built by Maharaja Radha Kishore Manikya, this palace is designed in the Mughal style with gardens in front of it. 

This palace is a perfect classic example with elegant floors, curved ceilings, and huge doors. There are also many famous temples that are located around this palace. You can spend a beautiful evening in this palace, which is lit with lights, simply enhancing the beauty of the entire place. Today, it houses the State Museum with a wide and unique collection of royal and cultural artefacts.

Neermahal in Tripura, India

This mahal is literally one of the prides of Northeast India. It is situated right in the middle of Rudrasagar Lake and is 53 km away from Agartala. Constructed as a summer palace, this place was built so that Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Debbarman Manikya could spend time with his family here. Tourists who visit this place have appreciated the architecture of this palace. 

If you are planning your trip to Northeast India, you shouldn’t miss visiting this gem. Made of marbles and exquisite stones, this palace is a treat to watch. The balconies, minarets, bridges, and pavilions make Neermahal a remarkable architecture of India. Moreover, there are chances for visitors to witness a large number of migratory birds in the Rudrasagar Lake during the winter season. 

People from all over India, even people from abroad, visit this place especially in the month of August, to be a part of the Neermahal Water Festival. There are three events that are held at Melaghar and Rudrasagar Lake during this time. This festival is one of the biggest water festivals in India. However, the boat race that takes place during this festival is the most famous one. 

Best time to visit: The best time to visit places in Tripura is in the winter as the climate is mild and great for sightseeing.   

 

Jagannath Temple in Tripura, India

Nearly 52 km away from Agartala, this popular temple was constructed by the Manikya Dynasty. This famous temple is dedicated to God Jagannath. Make sure to carry a camera as this place will give you some perfect shots. If you want to witness the Rath Yatra, visit this place in the month of June. This temple of Northeast India is a perfect place for all religious souls. 

Best time to visit: The perfect time to visit places in Tripura is from October to May. However, if your priority is to visit this temple alone then choose to visit it in June as you can be a part of the Rath Yatra.

Kaziranga National Park in Assam, India

This park is declared as the UNESCO World Heritage Site and is situated in the centre of Assam. This park will surely be loved by any tourist. It is covered with lush green dense forest and a variety of fauna. Every year thousands of tourists come to this place from all over India and abroad. The famous one-horned Rhino is what makes Kaziranga National Park popular in the hearts of people. 

 

Apart from the one-horned rhino, you can come across elephants, wild water buffaloes, and swamp deer. To make it even more fun and thrilling, you can book a safari. You can either choose to go on an elephant safari or jeep safari to explore the park. 

Best time to visit: The best time to visit places in Assam is from November to April. However, the park remains closed during monsoon.

Tsomgo Lake in Sikkim, India

Sikkim is one of the most-visited places in India as it has many interesting places to offer a tourist. Tsomgo Lake is located at an altitude of 12,400 ft, a 37 km journey from Gangtok. This ethereal beauty at such an elevation gives any tourist the most peaceful and surreal experience. 

 

The Himalayan peaks that encircle the whole area are like the cherry on the cake. The high snow-covered mountains are the origin of the water in the lake. The snow melts in the summer and falls in the lake. However, if you happen to travel to this place during the winters, it will be completely covered by snow. 

Best time to visit: The best to visit places in Sikkim is in the winter. You can go on a yak ride on the snow-covered lake from October to March.

Tawang Monastery in Arunachal Pradesh, India

Arunachal Pradesh is all worthy of appreciation as it has many wonderful places worth visiting for a tourist. Tawang, a popular town in Northeast India, is located in the mountains of Arunachal Pradesh. The famous monastery and the picturesque scenic view of this town make it a world-famous place. 

 The Tawang Monastery in Arunachal Pradesh is a must-visit tourist destination as it is the birthplace of the Dalai Lama and the most popular Buddhist monastery in the whole of India

 It is also believed to be the largest in India and the second largest in the world. Tourists from all over India and even from foreign countries include Tawang Monastery in their tour to India.  

Best time to visit: The best time to visit places in Arunachal Pradesh is the summer and monsoon season (March, April, May, June, September, and October).

Umiam Lake in Shillong, India

Located 5 km north of Shillong, this man-made beauty is a place that is not only famous among the tourists of India but the whole world. This mesmerizing lake is surrounded by lush green coniferous forest, which enhances the beauty of this place. 

You can also choose to indulge in water activities like boating. There is also a park near this which has options for both children as well as adults. Umiam Lake is one of the most popular destinations in Shillong and also in India.

Best time to visit: The best time to visit tourist destinations in Shillong is between October and May.
