A place with dramatic landscape and pleasant climate and nature's heavy shower Mizoram is a state in the northeast of India with picturesque view of nature, moderate whether and lots of rainfall every year. It is one of the seven sisters of India and shares international borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh and internal borders with Assam, Manipur, and Tripura.
Just like the other North Eastern states, the traditional dresses won by the people of Mizoram are no less and different, as it also holds its own significance and immense beauty. These colorful and beautifully designed and stitched dresses have touched million of hearts of outsiders, as well as mesmerized millions of visitors too.
The main traditional dress of Mizoram is Puan and pain Chei, carefully designed and beautifully hand woven, it is worn during festivals Chapachar out and Mim kut. Puan is worn like a skirt, and it is hand woven by hand labour or machines. Puan Chei is worn while traditional dance. However, different types of Puan are worn in different occasions. For example, Nagate kherh or plain black Puan is worn when we pay tribute to someone who has passed away, zakulaisen is worn by unmarried girls of Mizo tribes, women who belong to the Lusei tribe have a blue skirt stiched from gotten fabric as their traditional dress and similarly after marriage they wear a traditional dress known as 'puon pie'. It is compulsory to wear this dress after marriage as it holds significant and important cultural values in the culture and tradition of Mizoram.
Coming towards men, men in Mizoram prefer simple style besides, in Mizoram there is no traditional dress in particular for men but, the dress which is most commonly won by men in Mizoram involves long cloth which they wrap around their body. Nagotrkhrh is a type of Puan which can be wrapped around
the waist. Earlier It used to be worn by men only but now it has a common face among the women too. And similarly 'Hmar am' and ‘Cyhna Hno' are also common in both the genders.
Apart from the traditional dresses Mizoram is also famous for it’ youth fashion. Influenced by Western culture and music the youth of Mizoram carry themselves with exotic dressing sense and trending fashion style which makes them look unique and want to talk to kind of people.
And then just like the elegant and beautiful dress of Mizoram people of Mizoram too hold high cultural values and are very amicable and kind. They are very welcoming who love their tradition and culture and keep immense faith in their religion and customs. Their charming personality and kindness always find a special corner in traveler's heart and never fail to leave a long lasting impression.
