Zuluk is frequented for 3 reasons: a glimpse of the historic Silk Route, an exhilarating drive on the 32-hairpin bends, and a chance to witness snowfall in winter. It’s also a great destination to unplug from daily work life, with its few homestays providing a quiet retreat amidst nature.
If seeing snow is what thrills you the most, then a drive to Thambi Viewpoint is what‘s in order. Situated at a staggering height of 11,200 feet in upper Zuluk, Thambi Viewpoint gets plenty of snow in the winter months between December-March and offers magnificent views of the Himalayas, including Mt. Khangchendzonga, if it’s not too cloudy and misty though.
Here are a few pictures taken on the way to Thambi Viewpoint from a homestay in Zuluk and at Thambi Viewpoint.

Glimpses of sparse vegetation and snow against a backdrop of blue skies and billowing clouds as you climb higher by the second is jaw-dropping
Army trucks are a common sight as they make their way to Nathu La Pass every day. The sleet makes it hard for the trucks to move ahead; hence, steel chains are attached on the tyres for better traction.

Driving up to Thambi Viewpoint during winters is a memorable experience and one you should not miss on your trip to Sikkim. It’s beautiful in the summer months too, so maybe 2 trips then?
