Yangkhullen is a big settlement on a steep yet beautiful landscape mountainside approx 80 km from Senapati town. It is a tribal village and home to the Zeme tribe. The primitive social and economic life is still prevailing in the village. The last couple of kilometers are hiked up to the village.
It is hanging almost 90-degree angle, which, therefore, it is known as the hanging village of Manipur and another offbeat location unknown to many. From Willong to Yangkhullen it will take 30 min and 19 km. To reach this village one has to walk and it is a very steep climb.
After one reaches the village top then the view is very beautiful. The landscape from the top is very amazing to witness. The houses are very small yet beautiful, the village was a sight to behold with houses built on the face of the cliff with little support or land to stand as if hanging. the entire house's main door is carved and you will be able to see lots of face carving in the doors.
The people out there do lots of oranges and cabbage plantations. The total number of Zemi tribe is about 600 families there. It is the 3 largest villages, where the traditions are passed on the younger generations. This village lies in the southwest of the famous Dzukou valley in Manipur. The most interesting thing is the famous Barak River originates near Yangkhullen village. The village of Willong Khullen(village) has the largest and the tallest monoliths which are over 7 meters tall and almost 1-meter thickness.
