Overview Overview

Location Overview:

Nagaland is a culturally rich state with around 17 major tribes and many subtribes. Over a course of 2 weeks, you will visit the villages of some of these tribes, learning of their traditions and beliefs along the way. Some of the villages you will visit include Kigwema Village (home to the Angami tribe), Longsa Village (home to the Lotha tribe), Longkhim Village (home to the Ao tribe), and Mopungchukit village (the third largest village in Nagaland).

Itinerary Itinerary


Arrival, Dimapur - Kohima

  • Fly to Dimapur. On arrival, you will be greeted by our representative and driven (74 km) to Kohima. 

  • In the afternoon, you will visit the Nagaland Emporium.

  • Overnight stay in Kohima.
Kohima - Tuophema

  • In the morning visit the following places: Vishwema (on the Manipur border) and Kigwema village (at the foothills of Mt. Japfu). These villages are home to the Angamai Naga tribe.

  • Afternoon drive to Tuophema, which is just 50 km outside Kohima. Check into one of the cottages that are all styled in traditional naga architecture and offer a fully modeled village for tourists to enjoy.

  • In the evening enjoy cultural dance and folk song and local food of Nagaland at the Tuophema Tourist village.

  • Overnight stay in Tuophema.
Tuophema - Wokha - Mokokchung

  • Drive down to Mokokchung, which is one of the centers of the Ao tribe and their culture. If you visit it during the 1st week of August, you can witness the celebration of Tsungremong, which is a harvest festival, and enjoy the celebratory food of Nagaland. 

  • En-route visit Longsa Village (Lotha Tribe) and Longkhim Village (Ao Tribe).

  • Overnight stay in Mokokchung.
Mokokchung Seightseeing

  • Day excursion to Mopungchukit village. This village is the permanent mission centre of Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang. This is the third largest village in Nagaland.

  • Visit time pillar and morung at the village.

  • Overnight stay in Mokokchung.
Mokokchung – Tuensang

  • Drive to Tuensang. 

  • En route visit Longkhim Village (Sangtam Tribe) and some tribal houses.

  • Overnight stay in Tuensang.
Tuensang - Kuthur - Noklak - Pangsha

  • Depart for Pengsha. En-route stop at Noklak village which is famous for slate roof houses and bamboo handicrafts. 

  • Later drive to Pangsha which is on the border of India and Myanmar and is a designated international trading centre.

  • Overnight stay in Pangsha.
Pangsa - Chandang Sadal - Kiphire

  • Drive to Kiphire via Nokyan, which is yet another of the beautiful places that is interesting to see, especially the wooden utensils made locally. 

  • Proceed further to Kiphire.

  • Overnight stay in Kiphire.
Kiphire - Pongru

  • In the morning visit Kiphire village and different tribal houses around Kiphre.

  • Later drive to Pongru. Pongru is the base for trekking to Saramati Peak.

  • Overnight stay in Pongru.
Pongru - Salumi - Thanamir

  • Drive to Salumi. which is famous for its natural caves. It is also the base for excursions to Fakim Wildlife Sanctuary, from Salumi.

  • Overnight stay in a camp.
Thanamir - Water Point

  • A 4-6 hour walk will take you to Water Point (10 km). Dinner will be at the camp.

  • Overnight stay at the camp.
Water Point - Mt. Saramati Peak - Water Point

  • Full-day excursion to Mt. Saramati Peak (3841 m). The trek to the peak is moderate, and at two places it's very steep, requiring some mountaineering skills.

  • Overnight stay at the camp.
Water Point - Thanamir - Salumi - Pongru

  • Trek down to Salumi village via Thanamir. From here drive to Pongru village.

  • Overnight stay in Pongru.
Pongru - Kohima

  • Drive back to Kohima.

  • En route stop at Jesumi (in Manipur) where the Indian Army stopped the Japanese Army’s advance for 5 days before the British Army arrived. 

  • Overnight stay in Kohima.
Kohima - Dimapur, Departure

  • After checking out, transfer to Dimapur Airport.

  • Your trip concludes. Head back home with lots of pictures and awesome memories.
