Batasia Loop is a must visit place for the nature lovers and it is specifically known for its twisting, narrow gauge railway track on which the Toy Train makes a complete loop around a wonderful circular garden. One can reach Batasia Loop from Darjeeling town by hiring a small taxi since it is at a distance of 5 kilometer which is 20 minutes drive approximately or can even visit while taking a toy train ride from Darjeeling. From Batasia Loop one can see the magnificent 360 degree view of snow covered peaks of the Eastern Himalayas with the majestic Kanchenjunga on one side during a clear sunny day and on the other side one can see the view of Darjeeling’s landscape. If you are visiting the place by Darjeeling toy train then the toy train will make a complete loop around the circular garden and the toy train stops for a while so that people can enjoy the scene along with a ride. The entire area along with the beautiful garden is about 50,000 square feet and the entire area is covered with green grass and beautiful both seasonal and permanent flowers and shrubs. To enjoy the views from Batasia Loop there are seating areas as well, where people can sit and capture the 360 degree panoramic views. Batasia Loop was commissioned in the year of 1919 since it was an engineering requirement for the toy train and the British created the Batasia Loop. One can aalso enjoy the Eco Garden in Batasia Loop where people can enjoy spending quality time with friends and family or just scrolling around the garden listening the music. During the time of visiting the Eco Garden one can also find to see many rare species of plants like Gingko Bilaba along with Rhododendrons, Silver Firs and even tea plants. There is also a War Memorial at the center of Batasia Loop which was built to commemorate the Gorkha Soldiers who sacrificed their lives after India’s Independence in the year of 1995.
