Changu Lake is an expanse of crystal clear water on the Nathula Highway. The sprawling lake, which is located 12,310. ft, above sea level in East Sikkim, takes on the hypnotic hues of the skies above and the snowy peaks surrounding it.
Situated 35km from Gangtok, the lake falls on an ancient trade route between two great civilizations, India and China.
The rich alpine cover around the lake makes it a perfect home for an array of flora and fauna. A yak ride along the shore will be an experience of a lifetime.
For the Sikkimese, change is a place of worship. In ancient times, Lamas could foretell the future by studying the varying colours of water. The lake is fed by melting snow of the mountains and in winter, turns into a frozen canvas.
