Sikkim offers travellers with a riveting and an unforgettable experience exploring the many wonders it has to offer. And one such attraction this land provides is the hot springs. It is believed that due to high in Sulphur content these hot springs have medicinal value and therefore, they are ideal for taking a dip. There are numbers of hot springs found in Sikkim like Shagyong Hot Spring, Borong Hot Spring, Ralong Hot Spring, Gangyap Hot Spring, Tholung Hot Spring, Reshi Hot Spring and many more, the Reshi Hot Spring which is located approximately at a distance of 25 kilometres away from Gyalshing is one of the most popular hot springs of Sikkim. Likewise, there are well known hot water Springs in North Sikkim too. The Yumthang hot water spring is on the way to Yumthang valley, also popularly known as the Valley of Flowers across the Lachung chu river. The water is heated due to the presence of sulphur which is then mixed with the icy cold water of Lachung chu river. The heated water is channelized in Log huts, a dip in warm water is quite refreshing. To reach the spot from the main road one needs to walk for a few hundred yards.
Many locals and the tourist’s visits this hot water spring near Yumthang and take the advantage of medicinal value by taking a dip into it. There is another hot water spring which is approximately 25 kilometres away from Yumthang Valley and it is known as Yume Sandong Hot Spring and it is at the base of the Donkia La Pass. To reach Yumthang Hot Spring one need to reach Lachung, North Sikkim.
The nearest airport is Bagdogra airport and the nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri railway station and both the airport and the railway stations are in Siliguri. From both, the place one needs to take any mode of transportation to reach Gangtok and the distance from Siliguri to Gangtok is approximately 4 to 5 hours but depending upon the road condition and the traffic the time travel may increase. To reach Lachung from Gangtok one can avail the taxi from the main town Gangtok, there are other sightseeing places on the way to Lachen where the travellers can enjoy the long drive. Although the distance from Gangtok to Lachung is approximately 140 kilometres the road conditions make the time travel long, it is although not very bad, but is mostly not the desirable one especially for the ones who are not an adventure type. Once you reach Lachung one needs to stay overnight and Yumthang Hot Spring the very next morning while visiting Yumthang Valley.
