Hong Village is in Ziro, of Lower Subansiri district in Arunachal Pradesh. Ziro is one of the most beautiful Himalayan valleys in India. Hong village is in middle of the Ziro Valley and this village is a place for an Apatani tribes. It is approximately a half an hour walk from Ziro to Hong Village. Hong village has traditional houses and most of the time the village is empty and their houses are locked because most of the people have migrated to town and other places. In Hong Village most of the houses have a field which has a small pond and are used for fish farming and frog rearing. As per the census 2011 the Hong -village has population of 1197 of which 581 are males while 616 are females. As per constitution of India and Panchyati Raaj Act, Hong village is administrated by Sarpanch (Head of Village) who is elected representative of village. Inside the traditional houses in Hong village they have a fire place in between and most of the time the family seat around the fire place and enjoy their meals, roasted fish, etc. In Hong village we can see most of the women working in fields instead of men. And the women also have lots of tattoos on their faces as it is their tradition. People of Hong village are one of the few people in the world who continue to live in harmony with nature. Hong Village Community remains proud of their traditional history while maintaining a balance with the changing world. The Viilage Community even use the elevated partition bunds between rice plots to grow millets. Using nature-friendly and sustainable techniques alone, they have successfully conserved forests around the valley, which serve as water sheds for streamlets flowing down to irrigate your fields. Their simple bamboo huts perched on top of vertical wooden stilts force us to rethink our consumerist approach towards living.
