Tashi Viewpoint is one of the most frequented spots in Gangtok. A 20-min drive up from MG Marg, the high vantage point where Tashi Viewpoint is located, offers a panoramic view of Gangtok city, surrounding valleys and hills, and the most sought-after reason—the view of sunrise over the overhead Himalayan ranges including Mt. Khangchendzonga and Mt. Siniolchu.
To get to Tashi Viewpoint, you will have to take a taxi. It’s right beside the road and adjacent to a military base.
Stairs to the left take you up to Tashi Viewpoint
There a few food stalls alongside the steps leading up to Tashi Viewpoint. Vendors can be seen selling local snacks and cut fruit.
Ignore the long flight of steps as the view is totally worth it
Once you reach the top of the steps, you’re greeted by a statue of 2 dragons and an observatory tower. On the ground floor is a souvenir shop where you can find books, showpieces, magnets, cups, paintings, woolens, and other knick-knacks.
A staircase inside leads up to the top of the observatory where you get another incredible view point. You need to buy a ticket costing INR 20 to access this floor.
There’s also a small stall selling snacks and drinks on the ground floor. There are also benches outside where you can rest for a while and take in the beauty of the surroundings.

Mornings are usually crammed with tourists who are excited to view the golden sunrise but evenings are just as delightful as the sky is painted in vibrant sunset hues.
This picture was taken sometime during the day. On a clear day you can see the stunning Himalayas straight ahead.
