Lava a must-visit place is just 32 kilometres away to the east from the town of Kalimpong and it is situated at an altitude of 7200 feet. Lava is famous for its proximity to the Neora Valley National Park and the beautiful views of the Jelep La and Reche La passes. Lava welcomes each and every visitor but the nature lovers will definitely love to visit this place since it is surrounded by Oak and Fir trees and Lava offers nice walks for nature lovers. Lava has many places of tourist attraction like Ratnarishi Gumpha (the Lava Monastery), Chhangey falls which is almost 10 kilometres away from Lava and it is near Kolakham area, Neora valley trek, the small treks are also possible to do in the region of Lava like Tiffin Dara trek and Alubari trek. Kagyu Thenkchen Ling Monastery is the official name of Ratnarishi Gumpha and it used to be a small monastery but later the monastery was reconstructed in recent years.
There is also a Nature Interpretation Center of Lava Forest department near a Lava town and one can get to see a glimpse of the flora and fauna found in the area. The next must-do option is Bird watching since varieties of birds can be seen like Yellow-throated Fulvetta, Blue-fronted Robin, Rusty-bellied Shortwing, Scarlet Finch, Satyr Tragopan, Broad-billed Warbler and many more. The place is a paradise for bird watchers and migratory birds can also be seen during the winter season. The Neora Valley national park which is near Lava is a home for many animals and the birds and this area is ideal for Bird enthusiasts and Bird photographers.
Almost at a distance of 5 kilometres one can also go for a hike towards Maneydara village. The small town Lava can be reached either through Dooars or through Kalimpong and the road of Dooars is also known as Damdim road. If you are travelling to Lava then it is advised to plan and combine along with Sikkim, Darjeeling or Dooars. It is a must-visit place along with friends and family, especially the place is advisable for nature lovers, photographers and bird watchers.
