ZIRO
A breathtaking, serene town in Arunachal Pradesh, Ziro is known for its scenic beauty. The town is bestowed with lush greenery, thick forests, cool breeze, and rolling hills. The town is home to the Apatani tribe, whose women are recognized for their facial tattoos and nose plugs. A visit to the town is truly a refreshing one as it is dotted with a number of tourist attractions such as Talley Valley Wildlife Sanctuary, 25-foot tall Shiva Linga at Kardo Forest (4 km from Hapoli Township), Meghna Cave Temple, and pine & bamboo groves. You can catch a glimpse of the unique agricultural practice of the Apatanis, which involves rearing fish in the paddy fields. Ziro has been named a World Heritage Site.
ZULUK
Zuluk is a small village beside a winding road. It was once a transit point to the historic Silk Route from Tibet to India. The road through Zuluk makes almost 32 hairpin turns to reach Lungthung, which makes it a unique engineering feature. The major attraction lies in watching the sunrise over Mt. Kanchendzonga and its allied peaks from Thambi View Point (around 14 kms away). During August and September, Zuluk is drenched in a riot of colors of wild flowers. You need a permit to visit this place. Although the mobile connectivity is not good, but no worries, wander where the Wi-Fi is weak.
DIMAPUR
A historically potent destination, Dimapur is blessed with exquisite natural beauty. It is the ancient capital of Damasi Kachari tribe kingdom and is also known as the ‘Gateway of Nagaland’. In Naga language, Dimapur means ‘The city near a great river’.
CHERRAPUNJEE
Hailed as the wettest place on earth, the torrential rains and the mystic scenery, unveiled among wispy clouds, imparts a surreal feeling. The place impresses with its gushing waterfalls and deep gorges. You will also get stunning views of Bangladesh. Cherrapunjee’s oranges and honey are famous, and you can pick up fine handwoven baskets from Sohra market.
DARJEELING
This place is famous for it colonial architecture, Buddhist monasteries, snow leopards, and red pandas and is a perfect place to satisfy the curious traveller. You can immerse yourself in the exquisite scenery of the Himalayan faces of Sikkim, Bhutan, Nepal, and Tibet. Your companion can be hot, freshly brewed Darjeeling tea!
