The small village Lepchajagat is located at an altitude of about 6956 feet and it is almost 19 kilometer, which means approximately 1 hour drives by taxi away from the town Darjeeling also known as queen of hills. Lepchajagat has a world of its own although it is quite close to Darjeeling the main hub of the district. As the name suggests, it once used to be a hamlet of the Lepcha tribes. The word 'Jagat' actually means "the world', so it was the world of the Lepcha’s. There is a very popular place called Pashupatinagar which is almost at a distance of 16 kilometer which is almost 45 minutes drive from Lepchajagat. After the main deity of Nepal Lord Pashipatinath the place was named as Pashupati. The Pashupatinagar is famous for Chinese goods, mainly electronic and consumer products, although Pashupatinagar is a moun tain side market in the Ilam district of Nepal which is just 2 kilometer away from the borer of India on the Darjeeling Mirik road. To reach Pashupatinagar one needs to cross the border Sukhiapokhari town where the border army checks all the visitors in the checkpoint but Indian and Nepalese nationals cross the checkpoint without any restrictions, for Indian nationals can can get the permission on the basis of Voter card, Adhaar card or Pan card. Many Indian tourists and the local people used to visit Pashupatinagar for shopping since it is about 15 km away from Mirik. The beautiful market has very strict restrictions due to the cross country trade but you can always buy cloth, perfumes, handicrafts and much more. When in the market, be very careful of the strict checks at the Indo Nepalese check posts. The Market Pashupatinagar is the gateway to Nepal and it is very nice market where almost all the things are available.
