Samdruptse Hill is located near Namchi town of South Sikkim. The word Samdruptse literally means “wish fulfilling tree” in the Bhutia language. It is the place where ones wishes can be fulfilled. It is also reputed to be a dormant volcano. Myths say that the Buddhist monks have been going on top of the hill and offering prayers to the volcano to keep it calm.
This wish-fulfilling hill is ornamented with a giant statue of the Guru Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche). It is the tallest statue of Guru Padma Sambhava in the world with a height of 135 feet, overlooking the whole Namchi town and is gilded with gold that glitters when the sunlight falls over it and can be seen from as far as Darjeeling.

The newly constructed ropeway starts from Samdruptse and ends at the rock garden. The best part about this ropeway is the scenic vista of the West and South Sikkim hills and not to forget the mighty Khangchendzonga that sprawls just in front.
It is located below the Tendong hill and the view from Samdruptse hill is something to be cherished and enjoyed. The hilltop offers a view of Namchi town, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Mt Khangchendzonga and eastern part of Nepal. Samdruptse has been developed as a pilgrimage centre to spread the message of love, compassion and peace of the Buddha.
Samdruptse Hill is at altitude of 1675 mts and is about 75km from Gangtok. It is rapidly becoming a magnet for domestic tourists due to the extraordinary statues that are around it.
