Thembang Dzong is approximately 55 kilometers away from Bomdila which is headquartering in the West Kameng District of Arunachal Pradesh in India. Arunachal Pradesh is a state in northeast India. Thembang Dzong is actually in Thembang village which is an ancient village and it is established before First Century AD as per the local people. The Thembang village has a high historical and cultural significance and the village Thembang was considered to be the most ancient village in the entire region. Earlier the village was also known as Yuchho- Pema-Chen which means “Lotus like a village”. The Thembang Dzong was also once a headquarter of a large territory which was ruled by the powerful king. The Thembang village is very beautiful and the entire village and the Thembang Dzong are surrounded by mountain peaks with oak and blue fine forest slopes. The view of from the Thembang Dzong looks very beautiful. The Thembang Dzong is approximately 14 kilometers away from Munna Camp and the place falls under the area of the east to Tawang – Bomdila. It is believed that earlier the village Thembang was located 10 km away from the present location in Sat – Tsi River Valley but due to epidemic almost 90 percent of villagers died and later the villagers moved to the existing place. The Thembang Dzong has two gates one at the northern side and the other on the southern side and the gate of southern sides is used in emergency cases only and ii is named as an escape gate. The Dzong is constructed in a very traditional way as the place is inhabited by the Monpa tribes all the structure, as well as the gates, follows traditional construction system which includes composite stones, masonry, wood architecture. Some ornamental features are also included like carved stone blocks, mani walls (stone walls with prayers engraved on them), traditional wood carvings, paintings and manuscripts, etched as murals and graffiti along with the houses and ancient ruins.
