Tawang is a place located in the northeastern state of India in Arunachal Pradesh. Tawang is one of the places blessed with natural beauty. Once you reach Tawang you can see the giant statue of Shakyamuni Buddha. It is situated near the Tawang circuit on the small hill and also offers beautiful views. The statue was consecrated by H.E. Thegtse Rinpoche in the year 2015. Shakyamuni, in Sanskrit means Sage of the Shakyas nickname applied to Gautama Buddha. Shakyamuni Buddha is the founder of the Buddhist religion. He lived and taught in India in the sixth century B.C.E. Gautama Buddha has many names and one of many is Shakyamuni Buddha. The statue of Shakyamuni Buddha represents the moment when he called the earth to witness his transcendence of the realm of Mara, the supreme God of the world (samsara), who had tried to distract him from his meditation.
