The Mystical Akashiganga Waterfall
The Akashiganga Waterfall is located near Dabaka city in the district of Nagaon in Assam. It rises from a thickly forested hill at an elevation of 900 metres (3,000 ft), with a drop measuring 140 feet. This huge waterfall of Assam is surrounded by lush greenery and dense forests.
Pilgrimage spot
Akashiganga Waterfall is an important destination for tourists who visit the district and a compulsory place for pilgrims, especially during the religious festival of Magh Bihu. There is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva here besides other new temples that have recently cropped up near the waterfalls. You can also find ruins of rock temples at the foot of the waterfalls. The pilgrims make it a point to dip in the waters near the falls believing it to be a sacred rite.
Myths and lores
A lot of myths, lores, and stories surround the beautiful Akashiganga Waterfall. According to legend, Goddess Sati immolated herself in the sacred fire that was prepared for the yagyas of her father because her husband Lord Shiva had not been invited to the ceremony. In complete rage over the incident, Lord Shiva carried the burnt body of his Sati and was on the verge of destroying the universe by dancing the Thandav. Lord Vishnu intervened and dismembered Sati's dead body with his chakra into 108 pieces. One piece is believed to have fallen near in Akashiganga. Therefore, devotees take a dip in the water to be blessed by the Goddess.

The Akashiganga Waterfall can be visited throughout the year. The temperature in summer ranges from 220C to 350C, and during winter from 120C to 330C.

How to reach Akashiganga Waterfall:
The road to Nagaon is well maintained. There are buses that ply on the highway and taxies are readily available from the railway station and airport to the Waterfalls.
