Gorsam Chorten the sky looming high stupa is near the village of Zemithang which is approximately 70 kilometer and two hour and forty minutes drive from Tawang in the northeastern state in Arunachal Pradesh of India. The Gorsam Chorten was constructed in 13th century AD by Lama Prathar from Kharman Village. The height of Stupa is 186 feet in the base and 93 feet in high and it is the modeled after stupa of Boudhanath of Nepal. It lies in the bank of Namjang Chu River and to date there is no written history and the date when was it exactly built. Indeed the chorten is a virtual replica of the Nepalese landmark: its giant hemispherical dome, crowned by a pyramidal head, resting on a square three-tiered base, with fur enormous eyes of the "all-seeing Buddha", painted on the pyramidal crown just as in Boudanath, with small stupas on the plinth’s four corners. Many followers of Buddhism and other thousands of visitors visit Gorsam Chorten during the festival of Gorsam Kora Festival. During the last day of the first month of the lunar calendar this festival Gorsam Kora is observed in Gorsam Chorten. The nearest airport to reach Tawang is Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati in Assam. Once you reach the Guwahati airport you can reach Gorsam Chotern via road it is 543 kilometers away from Guwahati – Tawang road journey and it is almost 14 to 16 hours drive. Once you arrive Guwahati drive towards Tezpur and from Guwahati to Tezpur it is almost 198 kilometers and one can stay at Tezpur to spend a night since it is a long journey so rest is a must. The next day from Tezpur drive towards Bhalukpong which is 260 kilometers approximately and on 3rd day from Bhalukpong one can drive to Tawang directly which is almost two hours drive and one can enjoy the beautiful natural tourist attractions of Tawang.
