Khongjom War Memorial is best location for history lovers who are always curious about the history of some particular place. It is located 36 kms from Imphal on the Indo-Myanmar road has an important historical significance. It was here that Major General Paona Brajabashi, one of the great warriors. The memorial is a tribute to the Manipuri Meitei heroes who sacrificed their lives while fighting British forces. The beautiful complex houses a memorial monument, 3 lion statues, green lawns, and clear ponds and is considered one of the best war memorials in India.
Khongjom War Memorial is one of the popular tourist place in Thoubal district that reminds the visitors about the war which held between the locals of Manipur and the British Army in 1891. Major Brajabashi was one of the great soldiers from Manipur who showed his utmost courage and valour against the invading British Army in 1891. The Battle of Khongjom was the greatest battle of the Anglo-Manipur War. Great freedom fighters-Major Paona Brajabasi, Chinglen Sana, Khumbong Major, Loitongba Jamadar, Keisa Jamadar, Heirang Khongja and many more rank and files of Manipuri warriors sacrificed their lives at this battlefield.
